• Frequently Asked Questions

  • Carpet Cleaning

When you clean carpets do you use steam, shampoo, harsh chemicals or dry powder?

None of the above. Those carpet cleaning methods either make your carpet very wet, leave a residue behind (i.e. make it dirtier), do very little actual cleaning or make your carpet smell bad.

We use a slippery, green cleaning solution that coats the dirt in your carpet and keeps it from clinging to your carpet fibers.  But, since cotton is super absorbent my cotton Terry Cloth pads absorb your dirt and the solution.

Our specially designed machine drives our highly absorbent cotton Terry Cloth pad so it scrubs every fiber in your carpet from multiple directions, encapsulating the dirt and contaminates, removing stubborn stains, spots, and dirt. This thorough cleaning process keeps carpets cleaner longer simply because it removes more of the dirt from it.

After you clean, will the room smell bad, the way it does with steam cleaning?

No. Steam cleaners scrub your carpet with a lot of water, so it gets very wet. We put a fine mist of green cleaning solution on your carpet so it only gets damp. Steam cleaned carpet takes 1 - 3 days to dry, our carpet takes about an hour to dry! What often causes carpet to smell bad is the water that activates the pet dander, soil and food particles that were not removed. Since your carpet will be dry in about an hour, it will not smell bad after we clean it.

Is your process abrasive on the carpet?

No. To understand why not press your hands together firmly and move them quickly against each other. They get warm pretty quickly because there is a lot of friction or abrasion. Now, put a little soap and some water on your hands and rub them together. They don’t get nearly as warm do they? The soap and water reduces the friction. Our green cleaning solution is slippery and greatly reduces the friction between our pad and your carpet, so there is enough abrasion to remove the dirt, but not enough to harm your carpet.

    Preparation for your carpet cleaning.

Its easy. Vacuum, especially under baseboard heaters, around the edges of of each room and stairs. Starting with a clean vacuum bag (or filter in the case of a bagless vacuum) with unobstructed vacuum hoses. If you don’t have time to vacuum we will vacuum before or after we clean, as needed.

Should I move furniture before you come?

It depends. If you never walk on the carpet under certain pieces of furniture, a vacuuming is all that will be needed to clean the carpet under it. I will move some light furniture and clean under it, but if you need all of the carpet in a room cleaned, that room will need to be empty of furniture when I arrive. If you have me clean a portion of a room, I will only charge you for that portion.

I have had my carpet cleaned, but the spots have reappeared. What should I do?

My process, Very Low Moisture Carpet Cleaning, usually solves that problem after it has occurred following Steam Cleaning. The reason is that steam cleaning puts so much water on the carpet, that the water gets the carpet pad underneath wet. A week or two after the carpet has been “cleaned” by the steam cleaner the wet pad “wicks” that stain that is also in the pad, right back up into the carpet. Since we only put a mist of our green cleaning solution on your carpet the pad doesn’t get wet and it doesn’t “wick” the stain back up into the carpet.

On August 11, 2016 I ran into this exact situation in a large room at a Lexington Church.  Three steam cleaners had cleaned the room in the 12 months before I came - and the same stains always came back.  After I cleaned that room, the stains still have not come back.

Why does my carpet have puckers in it, or places where the carpet rises up?

Cleaning does not cause puckers.   Over time some carpets will stretch and cause puckers. We can clean the carpet with or without puckers in it, but to get rid of them you need to call a carpet installation company who will re-stretch your carpet.

    Will carpet cleaning kill fleas?

We cannot guarantee that the cleaning will get rid of all the fleas. We usually recommend that the customer kill the adult fleas first by whichever method they prefer. This is something that a professional exterminator will able to help with.

What about the protective coating I purchased with my carpet?

Carpet cleaning will remove some of that coating, but soil, and walking on your carpet will also remove it. Keeping your carpet clean is essential to prolonging the life of your carpet. We do not recommend the protective coatings because they are ineffective, but if you want us to we will re-apply them.

How do you guarantee customer satisfaction?

I am called back to redo a portion of about one out of every 100 jobs I do. We are happy to work with you to correct any situation that may arise. In some cases this can mean spot cleaning specific areas of concern or even completely re-cleaning the area in question. In the end, we’re not satisfied until you are.

  • Tile and Grout

Why should I have my tile & grout cleaned?

Just like carpet, dirt builds up over time dulling your tile’s appearance and discoloring your grout. A thorough, professional tile & grout cleaning is the only way to remove the deep-down dirt.

How do you clean my tile & grout?

I don’t shoot a stream of water at it (steam cleaners), I physically scrub it with a special tile and grout head on my machine that reaches into the grout to clean it. Think of cleaning with a stream of water (steam cleaning) or a scrub brush. Which will do a better job? My tile and grout cleaner breaks up the soil so I can rinse it away with a damp pad.

How long will it take to have my tile and grout floor cleaned?

For an average size room (up to 300 square feet), it typically takes 20-40 minutes to clean the tile & grout. This can vary based on a number of factors including the size of the tile, amount of soil in the grout lines, and room configuration.

  • Upholstery Cleaning

How often do manufacturers recommend professional cleaning?

Manufacturers recommend having upholstered furniture professionally cleaned every 12-24 months depending on use.

    How does WOW clean upholstery?

We have a third machine that is similar to our award winning carpet cleaning machine, that is more gentle on the furniture’s fabric. Our green cleaning solution coats the soil particles so they won’t stick to the fabric and they are brushed away onto our cotton Terry Cloth pad. The “fingers” of our Terry Cloth pad, (just like your bath towel has) penetrate into the fabric for a deep cleaning.

What about the protective coating I purchased with my upholstery?

Upholstery cleaning will remove some of that coating, but soil, and sitting on your furniture will also remove it. Keeping your upholstery clean is essential to prolonging the life of your furniture. We do not recommend the protective coatings, but if you want us to we will re-apply them.

How long will it take my upholstered furniture to dry?

Between 2 and 6 hours, depending on the fabric and the amount of soil on it.
